李天明教授,美国夏威夷大学终身教授。主要从事气候动力学、热带气象、季风及台风等方面的研究。发表SCI论文400余篇,Google Scholar引用25000余次,H指数84。担任世界气象组织(WMO)世界天气研究计划(WWRP)季风工作组成员、气候变化与可预报性(CLIVAR)/大气环流模式比较计划(AMIP)东亚气候工作组成员,曾任《Journal of Climate》、《Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society》编辑和《Journal of Meteorological Research》副主编,荣获AOGS fellow和夏威夷大学杰出研究金奖。





报告简介:

In the first part of my talk, I will discuss the origin of mid-latitude intraseasonal oscillations (ISOs) through both observational and theoretical studies. Maximum atmospheric intraseasonal variability centers are located along 60°N  over North Pacific and Atlantic. The mid-latitude ISOs are characterized by a zonal planetary scale and a westward phase speed of 3 m s-1, being tightly coupled with moisture and precipitation anomalies. A theoretical model was constructed to understand the origin of the mid-latitude ISOs. The result shows that the mid-latitude ISOs are an unstable mode, resulting from the moisture-precipitation-circulation feedback. In the second part of my talk, I will further discuss a two-way interaction between the mid-latitude atmosphere and ocean on the intraseasonal timescale along the Kuroshio Extension.
